Upcoming establishment of the Agency for Minorities, Migrations and Asylum in Portugal

Currently, the Immigration and Border Service handles residence permits, a process that can take years for immigrants to regularise their status in Portugal. Meanwhile, foreigners can work and make social security contributions, but they are prevented from leaving the country due to their irregular situation.
